Meet Your Lead Teacher, Kayla Tahani Copeland

E-RYT 500 | MA, APCC | Yoga Teacher, Psychotherapist, Artist

This training is more than a curriculum — it’s a living transmission. And who leads it matters deeply.

I created and curated the 300hr Advanced Embodied Breath Yoga Teacher Training because I believe that the most transformative yoga education doesn’t just teach you how to sequence a class — it invites you to live your yoga. To discover your dharma. To become the teacher only you can be.

I’ve been on this path since I was a teenager. Yoga found me when I needed it most — as a lifeline, as a mirror, as a practice that kept revealing more depth the more I gave myself to it. Over the years, that path has woven itself through advanced studies in yoga, breathwork, mindfulness-based psychology, and somatic therapy. And now, everything I’ve gathered is poured into this training — for you.

  • I hold a rare combination of credentials — and more than that, I’ve spent years learning how they talk to each other.

As an E-RYT 500, I’ve led Yoga Alliance–approved 200 and 300-hour teacher trainings both locally in Santa Cruz and internationally, including immersive programs in Costa Rica, France, Greece, and more. I’ve guided thousands of students through the kind of practice that reaches beneath the surface — into the body, the breath, the felt sense of who we are.

As an associate psychotherapist (MA, APCC), I bring a clinical lens to everything I teach. My therapeutic approach weaves together Gestalt therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic inquiry, and mindfulness — and those same frameworks show up in the way I hold space in a training room. I know how to meet people where they are at. I know what it means to guide someone through something vulnerable and real. As teachers and leaders, the way we hold space and the way we meet ourselves and our students is essential.

    Teaching yoga is an art.

And as an artist, I bring a quality of aliveness and expression to this work that goes far beyond technique. I want you to feel that in every module.

  • How I Teach

My teaching lives at the intersection of the ancient and the embodied — the philosophical and the deeply personal.

I don’t separate the physical practice from the inner one. In my classes and trainings, we move, we breathe, we inquire. We slow down enough to actually feel what’s happening. We honor the body as wise, the nervous system as a guide, and the practice as a living relationship — not just a set of poses to execute correctly.

I teach with warmth and rigor. I hold high standards for my students because I believe in what they’re capable of — and I create the kind of spacious, safe container where real growth can happen. You’ll be challenged, yes. But you’ll also feel held.

What I care most about is this: that you leave this training more yourself than when you arrived. More connected to your voice, your gifts, your dharma as a teacher and as a human being.

That’s what I’m here to guide you toward.

  • Personal Mentorship, Woven Through Every Module

One of the things that sets this training apart is the opportunity to work with me directly — not just as a group, but one-on-one.

Alongside the full 300hr training, you will receive personal mentorship: three private sessions with me, one aligned to each module of the program. This is where the training becomes truly yours.

In each session, we’ll meet you exactly where you are. We’ll look at what’s opening up for you in the material, what’s asking to be refined, and what’s ready to emerge in your teaching. We’ll explore your goals, your strengths, your growth edges — with honest care and clear reflection.

This is the kind of guidance that changes the arc of your teaching life. Not because I hand you the answers, but because I help you find your own.

    Mentorship includes:

    — Session One (Earth/Water): Clarify your goals, ground your intentions, and begin to name your unique gifts as a teacher

    — Session Two (Fire): Fine-tune your voice and teaching style as it emerges mid-training

    — Session Three (Air/Ether): Integrate your growth and map a clear vision for what comes next

  • A Note From Me

I’ve been on this healing journey since my teenage years, and I can tell you with every part of me — this practice changes lives. It changed mine.

I’m so deeply honored to hold this container for teachers who are ready to go further, go deeper, and step more fully into the gifts they’re here to share. This training is something I’ve poured my whole self into — the practices, the lineages, the psychological depth, the community.

If you’re feeling the pull toward this — trust that. It’s not an accident that you’re here.

I can’t wait to walk this path with you.

    With so much love,

    Kayla

this training is for you. the mentorship is with you.

1:1 mentorship with Kayla — woven through each module of the 300hr, to help you get the most out of this training and out of yourself

you’re stepping into something big.

a 300hr training is already so much more than a certification — it’s a portal. it’s an invitation to go deeper into your practice, your purpose, your path as a teacher.

and sometimes the most transformative thing that can happen in a training isn’t what you learn in the group — it’s having someone who truly sees you sit across from you and reflect back what’s moving, what’s ready, what’s yours to step into.

that’s what this is.

  • three sessions. three modules. one continuous thread of growth.

one private session per intensive — timed to meet you exactly where you are in the arc of your training.

not generic check-ins. not a formula. each session is shaped entirely around you — your goals, your growth edges, your gifts, what’s alive and what’s asking to be refined.

it’s the difference between going through a training and being changed by it.

  • 3 sessions designed to integrate your learning and make the most out of your experience.

    At a glance:
Session 1: Aligned with the Yin Yoga Intensive.Ground Your Foundation. Discover Your Dharma.

Session 2: Aligned with the Vinyasa Yoga Intensive. Fine-Tune Your Gifts. Clarify Your Voice.

Session 3: Aligned with the Advanced Meditation, Breathwork & Sharing Your Gifts Intensive. Integrate. Elevate. Step Into What’s Next.

  • session one: getting grounded in who you are
before anything else, we slow down.

the earth/water module is all about going inward — and your first mentorship session mirrors that. we’ll take stock of where you actually are in your teaching journey right now. not where you think you should be. not where you’re hoping to arrive. where you are.

together we’ll start to clarify what you’re here for in this training, name the strengths you’re already standing on (even the ones you can’t quite see yet), and identify the growth edges that are asking to be met. this session plants something. we’ll tend to it all training long.

    you’ll come away with:

    — clarity on your personal goals and intentions for the full 300hr

    — a felt sense of your unique strengths as a teacher

    — honest, loving awareness of your growth edges

    — a foundation to return to when things get hard or disorienting

  • session two: fine-tuning your gifts
    you’re in it now.

the fire intensive has a way of lighting things up — in you, in your teaching, in the places where you’ve been holding back or playing small. mid-training is exactly the right moment to pause and check in.

in our second session, we’ll look at what’s opening up for you. we’ll go deeper into your specific gifts — especially the ones you might not be fully claiming yet — and work on refining how you bring them into the room. your voice. your presence. your dharma. where your teaching is asking for more aliveness, more specificity, more you.

    you’ll come away with:

    — deeper clarity on your unique teaching gifts and style

    — more refined language and embodied presence in the classroom

    — a sense of how your dharma is revealing itself through this training

    — specific things to focus on and practice in the stretch ahead

  • session three: integrating and stepping forward
    you’ve come so far.

this final session is for integration — bringing all of it together, and preparing you to step fully into what’s next. we’ll look at how you’ve grown, what has shifted, and what you’re ready to take into the world. we’ll talk about what it means to teach from an aligned, embodied, sustainable place — not just after training, but for the long arc of your teaching life.

and we’ll map out a real vision for what comes next. whatever that looks like for you.

    you’ll come away with:

    — a clear, integrated sense of your own growth over the training

    — confidence in your voice, your gifts, and your direction

    — a personalized vision for your path as an advanced teacher

    — a felt sense of readiness for what you’re stepping into

  • this mentorship is for you if…

you want more than a certification — you want a training that actually changes you

you’ve felt the quiet uncertainty of not fully trusting your own gifts as a teacher

you know you’re ready for the next level, and you want support in finding your own way there

you’re craving a real relationship with a mentor who will see you clearly, meet you honestly, and walk with you through the whole journey

you’re done waiting to feel “ready enough” — and you want someone in your corner as you step forward

You want a guide who will see you clearly, challenge you gently, and walk with you through the whole journey

You’re ready to stop shrinking and start stepping forward — with support

  • mentorship from someone who has lived this path

I didn’t come to teaching yoga through a straight line. I came through years of my own deep practice, through training in psychology and somatic healing, through learning to trust my own voice even when it felt uncertain or incomplete.

that’s what i bring to this mentorship — not just my credentials (though yes, E-RYT 500, MA, and APCC) — but my lived understanding of what it means to grow into yourself as a teacher. to do the inner work that makes the outer work meaningful.

I have a way of seeing people — their patterns, their potential, the gifts they’re already carrying but haven’t fully claimed. it’s what I do as a therapist and as a yoga teacher, and it’s what I’ll bring into every session with you.

this isn’t a coaching formula. it’s a real relationship, held with intention, woven through one of the most important chapters of your teaching life.

  • three private sessions with Kayla — one per module — held throughout the arc of the training is included in your tuition.

we want you to get the very most out of your learning so we’ve included these sessions are into your experience.
